WTT Innovation

Welcome to the world leader in development of contemporary industrial wood modification technologies.

Our mission is to use science in a collaborative approach to take wood modification out of the laboratories and into the building materials marketplace.

Our industry, and the societies it serves, need access to efficient modern wood preservation technologies not based on biocides in the future.

This use is increasingly being limited in all aspects of modern society, including wood for outdoor use in the building industry.
At the same time, wood is a fantastic building material which, differently from some other building materials, meets all the expectations and requirements from architects, builders and end users: its sustainable, renewable, beautiful and extremely versatile, with an unrivalled strength to weight ratio. A highly functional fiber ingeniously designed by nature.

Understanding this, our owner Dr. Peter Klaas decided in 2013 to focus WTT innovation on bringing non biocide based technologies out of the university laboratories and into WTT’s engineering department.

Most scientifically developed modification processes are complex and with limited market potential. A key area has been to develop 2nd generation efficient processes based on existing research. Dr. Klaas did this by conceptualizing the exploitation of high pressure processes with a hybrid approach, taking advantage of process simplification and synergistic effects. This allowed WTT Innovation to create and patent new industrial processes with low capital and operational expense requirements.

In 2018 WTT was able to launch a new second generation thermal modification system, the ThermoTreat 2.0. It reduced traditional process time by a factor 5 and increased the durability performance from class 2 to class 1, offering superior durability performance and product lifetime expectancy. Today, this technology dominates domestic US manufacturing with 30.000 m3 of installed capacity and more in the planning.

Other new technologies, offering added functionality such as termite resistance, in-ground and fresh water applications as well as marine applications are in the pipeline and currently being successfully tested.

About us

WTT Innovation is part of the WTT group, together with WTT Engineering and WTT Service.

WTT is the worlds only technology company within wood modification. It has full R&D, Engineering, Project and Aftersales capabilities.

WTT was founded as a technology company by Niels Moldrup in 1977, developing a series of new treatment systems that changed the face of European wood treatment in the 1970 and 1980s. After Mr. Moldrups passing, the company was taken over by his son Bror Moldrup who mainly capitalized from his fathers inventions. He later lost the company. Our current owner Dr. Peter Klaas joined in 2013. In 2022, Dr. Klaas handed over the MD role to Mr. Jakob Jakobsen. Chairman of the board is Mr. Karsten Cronwald.
